Agency Description:

Founded in 2009, E Joy Community Resource Center, Inc.  (E Joy) is a nonprofit social services agency serving residents throughout Long Island and New York City.  E Joy is dedicated to helping individuals, and families live self-sufficient lives by providing critical assistance in the areas of food programs, senior health and wellness, and career development and training for Returning Citizens. E Joy is a 501(c) (3) charitable tax-exempt organization.

Mission: To enhance quality of life for all individuals by alleviating poverty, hunger and social injustice while inspiring hope, strength and self- sufficiency.

Vision:  Changing Lives One Community at a Time. 

Programs: Our comprehensive programs serve more than 1,000 low-income and episodically homeless individuals in Nassau County and New York Coty. These programs provide individuals and families in need with stability while dramatically reducing the financial stress on households struggling to stabilize.

Services includes:

  • Emergency Food Assistance  - Roslyn Heights and LaGuardia Community College, Long Island City, NY
  • Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday basket distribution to local families inclusive of  Veterans
  • Holiday toy and coat distribution
  • Senior Wellness program to include exercise, nutrition and workshops.
  • Referral Assistance
  • Career Planning and Job Readiness training for Returning Citizens.

E Joy Community Resource Center, Inc was establish in 2009 in the memory of the founder Audrey Lewis, late mother in law Edwinor J. Gandy. E Joys mission is to provide hunger relief and promote self-sufficiency and empowerment to the disenfranchised and economically disadvantaged, since 2009 we have served as a beacon of hope by providing and sustaining multi-faceted programs designed to support the well-being of all our clients.

Client Choice Food Pantry: Operating in Roslyn Heights and LaGuardia Community college, E Joy Community Resource Center (E Joy) food pantry is a source for supplemental food to those who are on a limited income or have an acute need. Families may stop at the pantry monthly or once a week based on need, and receives shopping bags filled with fruit and vegetables, along with chicken, beef and/or fish.  In addition to providing our families with the 5 major food groups, we also insure our clients receive helpful social services and health care information.

Outreach/ Referral Assistance:  Families and individuals who are in need of services that we do not offer are referred to other human service agencies specializing in domestic violence, housing, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, counseling, health insurance.

Senior Nutrition & Exercise Program: Working in alliance with the Town of North Hempstead – Project Independence, this nutrition and exercise program is designed for low income seniors who are at risk of or already suffering from the effects of diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and other illnesses resulting from poor nutrition and immobility.  A dietician visits once a month to educate and empower seniors to make healthier choices regarding diet and exercise.  Meeting three times a week seniors enjoy exercise, lunch, workshops and social activities.  

Job Readiness Training:  Collaborating with NY State Parole and L.I. Reentry Task force, E Joy provides development and job readiness skills to former offenders including supportive services aimed to prevent recidivism. Our program is modeled after the Office of Probation and correctional alternatives (OPCA) along with the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) “Ready, Set, Work”. Program outline is available upon request. Completion of this program shows prospective employers that formerly incarcerated individuals are capable of completing the work that is at hand.
